Overseas: Spend like a local with Bó

By Craig Hore, Editor | February 17th 2020

At Bó we really want to help people do money better. If you're saving hard to get away this year, here are a few tips to help you make your holiday money go further.

ATM Withdrawals

If you're with Bó, all ATM withdrawals are free of charge. We won't charge you a penny when you withdraw cash from ATMs anywhere in the world (although the cash machine operator may charge you, so keep an eye for that).

The same great exchange rate

If you have a Bó card you don't need to worry about shopping around for the best exchange rates. Many other banks charge up to 3% in fees, but at Bó, we pass on the exchange rate that we get from Visa, directly to you. So with Bó, there are no added fees, when you spend abroad using your card.

If asked, pay in local currency

Some shops, hotels and restaurants often offer 'dynamic currency conversion'. This is where you can choose to pay in pounds instead of the local currency. What this means is that the retailer's bank is doing the conversion and often the exchange rate may not be the best available. So, when given the option, you might find it better to pay in the local currency.

Knowing how much you've spent abroad

You'll always know how much you've spent when you're with Bó because we send you instant alerts in sterling and local currency every time you use your Bó card abroad. That means you can stay on top of your holiday budget.

Do bear in mind thought that when the transaction is settled, a couple of days later, the exchange rate may be slightly different than the one initially shown. That will be because the exchange rate has changes and not because we are adding any extra fees.

You don't need to tell us

There's no need to let us know every time you go away on holiday, just go ahead, use your card and have fun!

Plan and you could save
